What it is like to arrive here.

Ræbæk Strand Teltplads is a free teltplads, a tent site, on the shore of Kolding Fjord in southeastern Jylland. Destination Trekantområdet, the destination organization covering Kolding and the surrounding municipalities, lists it as free with a maximum of two nights and describes it as open all year.

The constraint goes at the top. This is tents only. The OpenStreetMap record tags caravans and motorized vehicles as not allowed, and the official listing describes a primitive shore pitch rather than a parking area with bays. If you are in a motorhome, this is not your stopover.

What the official listing says

Destination Trekantområdet’s page is in Danish, so translate it yourself if a detail is going to decide your night. What it says: overnight stays are free, the limit is op til to nætter, up to two nights, and the site is åbent hele året, open all year.

The listing describes a toilet, a fire pit, and a child-friendly beach nearby. It also says water is available during the bathing season, which is a useful piece of precision. A Danish coastal site with a summer-only water supply is completely normal, and it means the tap that exists in July may be dry and drained in March even though the site itself is still open.

Drinking water and toilets are both listed, and the official page names both, with the seasonal caveat above on water.

Showers, an electric hook-up and a waste disposal point are not listed either way. Plan on doing without all three.

Where it sits

Kolding Fjord is a narrow, sheltered inlet running west off the Lillebælt, the strait that separates Jylland from Fyn. This matters more than it sounds.

Denmark’s two coasts are genuinely different trips. The North Sea side of Jylland is dune and heath, open, and reliably windy, and an exposed pitch there is decided by the forecast. The Lillebælt and Baltic side, which is where you are here, is enclosed water with land on both sides, wooded slopes coming down to the shore, and far less fetch for the wind to build up over. Eastern Jylland around Kolding is rolling and green rather than flat and open. A shore pitch in a fjord like this stays usable in weather that would make a west-coast dune car park miserable.

Kolding is a substantial town at the head of the fjord, so resupply is easy, and you are close to the E45 corridor running the length of Jylland. Sheltered water also explains the site’s shape: this is a stop on a coastal paddling route as much as anything else.

The rule that applies

Denmark does not have a Swedish-style right to roam. Sweden’s allemansrätten gives a general right of access that does not depend on the landowner. There is no Danish equivalent, and assuming there is one is the most common and most expensive mistake visitors make in this part of the Nordics.

What Denmark gives you is specific permission on specific ground, published with conditions. This site is one such permission, with a two-night ceiling written into it. Before you rely on this

Open the Destination Trekantområdet listing linked below and confirm the free status, the two-night limit, and the water situation still read as we describe them. Coastal sites get closed for erosion works, for maintenance, and after problems, and nobody sends us a notice.

Check the access restriction again if you are driving. The record says no caravans and no motor vehicles, and that is the sort of thing that gets enforced with a bollard.
