As of August 27, 2026, Nouvelle-Aquitaine has the most French aires confirmed free (159), followed by Grand Est (104) and Pays de la Loire (95).
What it means on the road
A high count is not the same as a high share. Some regions list many aires without a price, so look at the "fee not stated" column before you decide a region is cheap or expensive.

- Counted: the 2,966 French aires on FreeCampMaps, grouped by the région they sit in, 11 régions in all.
- Free means the source says free. Aires that are free to park but charge for services, and aires that charge, are not counted as free.
- An aire with no stated price is never counted as free. The percentage column is free aires as a share of the aires in that region that do state a price.
